At the official pre-season tests at Circuit Paul Ricard, Fabien Barthez and Bernard Delhez had the chance to work together to get accustomed to the n°23 Lexus RC F GT3. Their productive work allowed Tech 1 Racing and Panis-Barthez Compétition to post a promising eighth best time in the final session.
In addition to joining the former French FFSA GT Champion for the full season, Bernard Delhez also returns to a squad he knows very well.
In 2008, the Belgian driver contributed to the third consecutive teams’ title for Tech 1 Racing in the Eurocup Mégane Trophy! The Verviers native has since competed in several categories, and most notably GT.
Second in the 2012 Pro-Am category in the Blancpain Super Trofeo, third in the 2017 Am Cup of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and runner-up in his class in last year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa, he now intends to bring all his experience to the team as it fine-tunes the final details before making its GT3 debut next week at Monza.
“The moment I arrived at Le Castellet, I felt right back at home”, says Bernard Delhez. “It is a pleasure to join Tech 1 Racing and Panis-Barthez Compétition to take on this new challenge together. I am aware of the task ahead, but our first tests were promising as we lowered our best time in each session to finish in the top ten. Having Olivier Panis alongside Simon and Sarah Abadie is also an asset that should help us move forward. For sure, there is more work to do, but I also know that Fabien is a natural-born competitor. With a proven team, a determined team mate and a car like the Lexus RC F GT3, I can’t wait to see where our potential takes us!”
“We are very pleased to confirm Bernard behind the wheel of the Lexus RC F GT3 in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup”, adds Tech 1 Racing Team Manager, Simon Abadie. “From both the human and professional point of view, it is great to have Bernard back with us as we shared some fantastic times more than a decade ago. Along with Fabien, we have a solid and experienced duo in GT. They will be valuable assets in this learning season. Since the Castellet tests, we have worked flat-out to show up in top shape at Monza. We know the competition will be stout, but I also know that the entire team is focused on just one objective: have a successful debut in GT3!”
